Video games have become extremely popular in the past decades, so popular, that anyone from ages 4 and up has probably experienced some for of interaction with them whether it’s actually playing or watching someone play. But, the video game industry was not always the multi-billion giant industry we know today. In fact video games have an odd beginning and were a product of something meant to cause destruction and not entertain. They have come a long way from the first simplest games to the high-tech counsels we have today that don’t just serve the purpose of playing games but also unite people from all over the world in ways never possible.

The history of video games started with early cathode ray tube-based missile defense systems in the 1940′s. Later these programs were adapted into other simple games during the 1950′s and 60′s. The fist game developed was Tennis For Two, a simple game on a radar screen that bounced the ball back and forth between two players. It was basic but this humble device would make way for the video game industry to be born. The majority of early video games ran on university mainframe computers but by the 1970′s the new revolutionary device would take over the video game industry called the the arcade. The arcade was a coin operated machine that allowed people to play video games on a television. This became a popular hobby for teens and places that had the arcade game became a common gathering place for young people.

The 70′s was the golden age for the arcade where people were able to play with a diverse amount of people and share ideas and interest , make friend or enemies, it united people although not for very far but still formed a sort of link between people. This was to end in  the 80′s when companies such as Nintendo began to produce at-home game counsels (there had been some earlier but they were not very good so the arcade still prevailed). These video game counsels would plug into a television set and then you can plug in different games that were held in cartridges and you can interchange them.  This gave people a larger variety of choices than the arcade but took the”bonding with others” part out of the equation because most were only designed for two players and since the system was at home you were most likely to play with friends or family members and not strangers in the arcade possibly missing out on starting a new friendship. This would be how the majority of people would play video games. There were some games you could play online with a lot of people using your computer but they were not very well-known people who weren’t into computers or didn’t have internet access didn’t really play.

The online era would arise again when Microsoft came out with the Xbox game counsel in November 15,2001 and introducing Xbox Live. Xbox Live was and online gaming service that allowed player to play against people from all over the world. It was like having a super arcade and you didn’t have to leave your house. It allowed players to communicated through voice, text, video, or a mixture of all three. It did charge a membership fee and required a broadband connection though. Xbox Live’s greatest seller at the time was Halo 2 and became and instant classic. people all over the world played and formed bond. people were able to meet different people and make friends thanks to Xbox Live.   The Sony PlayStation 2 also had online gaming and although it was free (all you needed was broadband connection) it was not very reliable and available for may games and lacked other thing the Xbox Live had.

Xbox Live would turn the Xbox and later Xbox 60 into the most popular counsels. They turned out many more games with online capabilities until all games came online. People up to today can’t get enough of playing online. Some people would even deem a counsel worthless if it didn’t have online capabilities.

Now a days its like going to the arcade like people in the 70′s and 80′s did but with a twist. You can play with a larger amount of people form all around the world and not even have to leave your house. You can play with your someone from japan and he can be in the comfort of his room and you in yours and you both can communicate like if you were next to each other. Yo may even become friends and constantly play with each other. It has combined a friend site such as Myspace, Facebook, etc. and added gaming to it.

Xbox Live is not the only online service. Almost all new computer games are designed to be played on the internet. One of the most famous one is World Of Warcraft. This  game creates and alternate reality for players. They can be anything they want to be and have anything they want. Players can even own Property within the game. Player are free to roam and entire different world and do various activities with people around the world without leaving their seat. It Is one way the world has united under video games.

Video games have found their way into peoples hearts and have united the world in ways nothing else can. It has made it possible for he world to become one huge arcade room. Video games bring together everyone in the world young and old, rich and poor. Online gaming is huge and is only getting bigger. If you have not experienced online gaming you should it is easy to start-up and get hooked on it. You will have a great time and might make some new friends from different places around the world in the process. When you play online, the entire world is at your reach.

There is so much technology today that some of it has become a part of us. We have become so dependent on it to help us get through our day that we could not imagine life without it. For me this technology that has become a part of me are my cell phone, my iPod, and my computer. I use my cell phone and iPod to connect and disconnect from the world depending on what mood I’m in and my computer has many different uses. I use all my technology every day to help me get by without going crazy.

My computer is another piece of technology i love to have in my life. I had many uses for it like communicating with my friends that are far away, doing my homework, and shopping online. Unfortunately as i had stated in my last essay my computer had crashed so i was using my sister’s computer. Well i think i have really bad luck because that computer died too. It caught a really bad computer virus and im not talking about trojan horse or whatever that annoying little virus spam blocker thing you get once in a while. This virus was like the get into your computer and infect every single file and embed itself into your hard drive and make your computer useless. I have officially given up on Microsoft and i am switching over to Apple. I don’t really mind tho because my computer was like 5 or 6 years old and it was time for an upgrade, the only pain is thst while i search for the right computer, i have to do all my homework at the school computers. I relly miss having one at home and hopefully i can buy a new computer this black friday.

This isn’t me but its what i felt like doing…

I use technology every day to keep me form going insane. My cell phone and my computer help me connect with the world around me and communicate with friends and family. On the opposite my Ipod helps me disconnect from the world when I want to. Although they have opposite functions, they complete a whole. They serve the purpose of helping me get through my day and make my life better. My cell phone, iPod, and computer have become such an important part of me that I could not imagine what my life would be like without them

Yes Men Questions

What was the most striking?

The scene when the guy is discussing a new way to keep watch on workers and still have some leisure time. Then he unveiled a bizarre suit but no one had any questions about it.

What is our responsibility as members of a democracy?

I think our responsibility is to stand up for our rights and make our vote count. It is our duty to choose our leaders that will do what we need and is best for us and not just for himself. It is also our responsibility to make petitions and and lobby for change when our leaders are not doing what we wish. We should also be up-to-date on the things that go on  around us an our community, state, country etc.

My Video…

Posted in Uncategorized on November 10, 2009 by fernando0918

1. The format i chose for my project was video.

2. I decided to make a video with pictures of me and things that influence my life and make me who i am.

3. Well it was pretty easy to decide because i had never made a video about myself so i thought it would be fun to try.

4. I ran into some problems while making my movie. First, i emailed it to myself so that i would be able to work on it at home but when i tried to open it i was unable to. Luckily i had my iPod so i just saved it on there and went home. When i tried to open it at home i found out that i didn’t have movie maker so i had to download it so that set me back some too. the last complication was that when i got to school i tried to play my video but the song wouldn’t play so i had to search for the song and download it so i could put it on my video again. At the end i was able to upload it to youtube with no problem and the post it to my blog.

Technology Essay

Posted in Uncategorized on October 29, 2009 by fernando0918

There is so much technology today that some of it has become a part of us. We have become so dependent on it to help us get through our day that we could not imagine life without it. For me this technology that has become a part of me are my cell phone, my iPod, and my computer. I use my cell phone and iPod to connect and disconnect from the world depending on what mood I’m in and my computer has many different uses. I use all my technology every day to help me get by without going crazy.
Everyday usually starts about the same way: My cell phone’s alarm goes off playing either a guitar solo or anything else that is loud enough that I can’t sleep through it. After hitting the snooze key about four or five times I finally get annoyed by it and I finally get out of bed wishing I would’ve gone to sleep earlier the night before instead of being out with my friends or up watching TV or playing video games. After I get dressed I unplug my phone from its wall charger n my IPod from my computer both of them go in my pocket. After this instant, these two objects will not leave my side the rest of the day.
My cell phone is extremely important to me. It is my window to the world. It keeps me connected to the world whenever I want to be connected. My phone is a Samsung Rant. The thing I like most about it is that it has a full keyboard so its made for text messaging. I use it to call once in a while but I prefer text messages because they are quiet and more private than a call because no one but you knows to who and what you are talking about. It gives me a sense of greater privacy. Text messaging also allows me to multi-task specially in school where I’m supposed to be paying attention to class. It’s hard to pay attention through two hour classes and not be bored to tears so communicating with my friends helps make it easier. Text messaging makes instantly connects me with my friends and I decide when to reply and keep the conversation going. For some reason my phone is always in my right pocket and when its not I just feel so awkward. It’s like if you reached to scratch your nose and suddenly found out it wasn’t there. A couple of times i have forgotten my phone at home and I feel like something is missing. Like I need it with me. I feel naked. My phone has become essential to me and I don’t know what I would do without it.
Another essential part of me is my iPod. I love listening to music everywhere I go. I am pretty well-rounded when it comes to music so you can pretty much find any type of music in my iPod raging from classic rock to hardcore metal, rap, hip hop, techno, and pretty much anything you can think of there’s a little of everything in there. Music makes me feel good, it makes me feel like the world moves to a bet, my beat. Music is my fuel that keeps me moving everyday and depending on my current mood, that’s the kind of music I will listen to. My iPod helps me a lot at work. I work for Pepsi and my job consists of going to different stores and stocking the shelves with our product. Pretty boring stuff since its repetitive and turns into a sort of never ending routine. Pretty boring stuff, but I can’t complain it satisfies my needs for money. Thankfully I have my Ipod everyday with me to help my day go by faster. By listening to music I disconnect my self from the world and go into what I like to call my “robot mode”. It’s like i am there but not completely. I pay enough attention to do my job effectively and safely but not enough to be paying attention to how much time goes by and keeps me from being bored to tears with doing the same task over and over again. The music in my iPod puts me in a state of mind that disconnects me from time so by the time I finish a stocking all the shelves of a store, I don’t even notice that two or three, sometimes four hour have flown by. Thanks to my iPod I am able to get through my day and keeps me from going nuts when life just get too boring.
Another of my favorite pieces of technology is my computer. My computer has many functions but I primarily use it to communicate, for entertainment, and for school. I use to communicate by using myspace to keep in touch with friends through myspace. I can communicate With my friends from high school who went away to college so I no longer see them anymore. I also use e-mail but mostly in more formal ways such as communicating with professors and things like that. I also use my computer for entertainment when I have nothing to do. I enjoy watching funny videos on you tube and playing short entertaining games online. I also like to watch movies and episodes of my favorite TV shows online. I can spend hour doing all this and keeps me entertained. I also use my computer whenever I need to do something to my car and I need help with it. I can find online how-to’s on pretty much any modification or repair I want to do to my Honda And the best part of it: its free. All I have to do is search for it and hopefully some one in the past has done the same type of work and has been kind enough to upload instructions. The most helpful function of my computer is when I use it for school work. Nowadays school requires you to do a lot of things online. Most of my homework is done using my computer and then either sent to my professor via e-mail or posted on a blog site (like this essay will be). I currently don’t have my computer at home so I feel a little odd. My sister’s computer died so she needed to borrow mine for a while because she needs one for work. So now every time I need to use it I have to go to her house. I really miss my computer and hope my sister gets one soon I can’t stand not having mine.
